âSo... Maggieâs pies only use the apples from a specific local apple farm, but their products are all withered up. The cause of the withering are phantom beasts that stick to the fruits and suck out the juices, and although those phantom beasts arenât strong, theyâre difficult to catch because of their numbers and they can fly,â Cecile said.
Estian nodded. âYes, thatâs right.â
âWhich is why you hired a private company to deal with the beasts, but they havenât acted despite getting paid?â
âApparently so.â
âFurthermore, it seems that thereâs some reason behind their inaction, which may somehow be related to the local governor that happens to be away right now, and not that theyâre trying to scam you? And even if the phantom beasts are killed, other problems remain such as getting a water supply...â
Cecile read aloud the reasons listed on a paper as she paced back and forth. After going through a lengthy list of additional reasons why the apple pies couldnât be made, she put on a determined look and said, âYour Majesty, letâs just kill them all.â
âShall we? Starting with the private company toââ
âNo, I mean the phantom beasts.â
Sure, the world could be a mess at times, but why overcomplicate matters? At times like these, facing the problems headfirst was the simplest way forward. Ignore everything and deal with the phantom beasts first. The water issue could somehow be resolved with the emperorâs power. Worst case scenario, they could always task Girgantia from pulling water from the river. With his enlarged size, heâd be able to carry more.
Word was going around that the imperial chef was buckling under the pressure of filling the dragonâs appetite for chicken, which had grown along with his size. The beast was freeloading off the national treasure; wasnât it natural that he put in some effort to earn his keep?
âCecile, if I told you to return to the villa now, late as it is, wouldââ Estian started.
Without waiting for Estian to finish, Cecile took off the blue phoenixâs blood drop earring and threw it to the ground. The phoenix manifested itself amidst blue flames and screeched happily at seeing Cecile. It perched on her shoulder and rubbed its face against her cheek. After she fainted in the aftermath of the events at Etia, Estian had fortunately retrieved the phoenix from the city.
âCanât this child beat those phantom beasts?â
âIt can, but...â Estian wore a conflicted look. Heâd intended on dealing with it by himself in moderation. Why had it turned out like this? âYou wonât go back even if I tell you to, will you?â
âYes, Iâm coming along no matter what. If you leave me behind, Iâll mobilize the knights and order them to follow me to aid His Majesty who has gone in search of apples!â
Estian was at a loss for words, and he rubbed his face with a hand as the back of his neck burned. This was precisely why he hadnât wanted this matter to be known. Estian wanted to do everything
